The details...

Groundswell presents: a Have-a-Go Tightwire Taster Workshop, as part of BeNewquay Festival...

Join aerialist, Poppy Plowman, for a fun introduction to tightwire, suitable for all ages! Poppy Plowman is a British circus artist with Turkish Cypriot origins. She has worked as a professional tightwire walker and hair hanger with several leading contemporary circus companies across Europe, before creating her own work. Find out more about Poppy here.

Poppy is in Newquay for two days and presents this workshop before her full show, Turk(ish) on the same day and in the same location at 4pm. Why not come along and have a go at tightwire, nip out and grab a bite to eat in Newquay before coming back to see Poppy combine her tightwire-walking and hair-hanging skills? The show incorporates live music and humour! to explore personal struggles of identity and Western beauty standards. Through her own story Poppy encourages us to embrace and celebrate who we are. Don't miss Turk(ish), which is recommended for age 7+ (but is suitable for those who are younger).

What's more... as well as this workshop, Poppy facilitates a more developed workshop the day before called Wire & Write, combining tightwire with creative writing. Participants will be working with Poppy to provide audio recordings which will then be incorporated into the show.

These Circus Out & About events are made possible with generous support from Carn to Cove.

Circus Around and About 2 is a south-west touring circus project, funded by an Arts Council England Lottery Project Grant. The project is led by Take Art with principal partners Crying Out Loud and Extraordinary Bodies, in collaboration with nine presenting partners including Carn to Cove.
